Black Panther Update

With the exception of some cast announcements, there haven’t been too many big details revealed about Black Panther. That is until this week! Marvel opened its doors to a select group of people and allowed a look behind the curtain at Thor: Ragnarok, Spiderman-Homecoming, Captain Marvel and Black PantherI cannot express enough how excited I am for this film to hit the big screen.

After seeing Chadwick Boseman make his onscreen debut in Captain America: Civil War, I knew we would be in for a treat and it looks like I was right! Slate reported this week that the footage for Black Panther looks like nothing we’ve seen in a Marvel film before. The rich costuming, beautiful concept art and brief looks at some of the characters in action has increased anticipation and curiosity about the Wakandan ruler T’ Challa.

I’m looking forward to seeing how he manages being the new ruler of his country and fulfilling his duty as warrior and protector with the Black Panther mantle. In Civil War, we saw him lose his father T’Chaka (he was murdered by Daniel Brühl’s Zemo) so we know there are a lot more responsibilities being thrown his way.

T’ Challa is protected by an all-female guard known as the Dora Milaje and I am thrilled at the idea of seeing the dynamic of these powerful women onscreen. Speaking of strong women, Rachel Morrison has signed on as cinematographer, which is monumental since she is the very first woman to shoot a Marvel film!

Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed) is directing as well as working on the script along with Joe Robert Cole, who he has previously collaborated with. If you’ve spent any time on my blog you know I’m a huge Coogler supporter and I consider him to be one of my favorite working directors.  What he crafted with Fruitvale was amazing and poignant and then his work on Creed completely blew me away. The fact that he’s a young man of color is even more rewarding and I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes in Black Panther’s first stand alone project.

Black Panther wrapped production in Atlanta this week and is expected in theaters February 2018. It is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis, Danai Gurira, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Basset, Martin Freeman and Forest Whitaker (that we know of so far 🙂 )

Leave a comment down below! How excited are you for the film? Are there any characters/actors you’d like to see in action?
