Universal unveiled its plans this week for The Dark Universe, which includes the relaunch of The Mummy, in theaters this summer, as well as re-imaginings of classics like The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and the Phantom of the Opera to name a few. Click below to see the enticing promo:
The following movies will all be released over the next several years: Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera, and Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Sofia Boutella is playing The Mummy, Johnny Depp has been announced as The Invisible Man, and Russell Crowe will play Dr. Henry Jekyll and serve as the connection between all of the characters in the DU. Javier Bardem and Tom Cruise are also along for the ride as Frankenstein’s monster and Nick Morton respectively.

I think that focusing in on these movies is a really smart choice. It’s something that will make Universal stand out and if they play their cards right, they will be a solid contender with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I’m still waiting for the definitive Dracula. The silent film Nosferatu from the 1920s was the closest yet to Bram Stoker’s novel, but none of the films come anywhere close to capturing the terror of Dracula.
