I have been excited for this adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time ever since it was announced that director Ava DuVernay was at the helm. I think she is a visionary and an extraordinary talent who is re-defining what it means to be a woman in cinema. DuVernay directed the Oscar-nominated Selma as well as the searing Netflix documentary 13th. Before that she wrote and directed two poignant indie pictures Middle of Nowhere and I Will Follow.
Now she’s furthering her journey into the “big leagues” by becoming the first woman of color to direct a feature with a $100 million budget. See the first look at the film below!
Wrinkle follows a young girl named Meg (Storm Reid) whose scientist father (Chris Pine) disappears while researching time travel. She and her little brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) must team up with three celestial beings (Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling) to find him and bring him home. This is a story that I personally enjoy because I never tire of seeing Light defeat the Darkness. The costuming and visuals also look enticing and I’m eager to see how it all comes together!
Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time is directed by Ava DuVernay, scripted by Jennifer Lee (Frozen) and based on the novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle. It stars Storm Reid, Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, and André Holland. Wrinkle will “tesser” into theaters March 9, 2018!
