Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is a tough-as-nails sports agent who is desperate to sign a deal with a promising basketball rookie. Fed up with the “boy’s club” mentality at her firm, she confides in a psychic who grants her the ability to hear men’s thoughts. While Ali’s new talent gives her an edge over her male counterparts, it also threatens to ruin her personal relationships.
First of all, I’m not sure why it took so long for Henson to be cast in a movie like this. Her comedic timing is great and she’s hilarious in this role. While largely known and respected for her dramatic performances, it was fun to watch her say and do the wildest things onscreen for two hours. It also helps that the entire cast look like they are having the time of their lives!

What Men Want doesn’t hold back with the vulgar jokes and raunchy humor. There are certainly enough “F” bombs to go around for everyone. It’s also a lot different than the 2000 movie What Women Want and it’s important that you don’t go into this expecting to see the same movie. If you were a huuuuge fan of the Mel Gibson movie, you’ll only be able to enjoy this if you can separate the two (like I had to do with my childhood 1995 fave Jumanji and the other one with The Rock).
Some scenes drag on a little too long and the story line is certainly predictable, but overall, What Men Want is a solid comedy with a fresh and modern perspective. If you want to laugh this Valentine’s Day week or you’re a big Taraji fan, I would say go ahead and give it a chance. What Men Want is currently showing in theaters!
Movies like What Men Want and Ghostbusters (2016) both switched the genders of the lead character/cast. Are you a fan of these kind of remakes? Let me know all about it in the comments down below!
I didn’t love this movie but really enjoyed Taraji in it, her reactions and mannerisms were spot on! You’re also right about the language in the movie, it made it feel all the more authentic.

I probably wouldn’t have even watched it if Taraji wasn’t the leading lady!

I’ve been wondering about this one. I quite like Henson and I really like the concept. In the other side I tend to push back on raunchy comedies. It’s just never been a type of humor I care for.

You’ll definitely want to steer clear then. It got a little overbearing at times, which is what made the scenes seem a little too long I think.
